WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?!

Hello!

First things first, I am SO sorry I haven't blogged in a while! I've been super busy with college, and applying to uni, and watching Doctor Who and... yeah, you get the idea.

As promised, here is a review of the film What We Did On Our Holiday, starring David Tennant, Billy Connolly and Rosamund Pike. I went to see it with one of my besties, Julia, and it was AMAZING! This film has loads of laughs, especially from the three children. This film comes from the creators of the hit BBC show Outnumbered, and the show is part improvised- by the children, and the film follows the same kind of format. I thought that this film had a strong storyline and it was comedic with a little bit of drama mixed in. David Tennant plays Doug McLeod, Rosamund Pike plays his estranged wife Abi, and Billy Connolly plays Doug's father, Gordie. I CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT ON DVD! :D

Aside from admiring David Tennant and becoming a stressed wreck with personal statements, UCAS, German grammar and coursework deadlines, I've been doing a lot of reading. I recently purchased a bunch of Doctor Who novels from a local charity store for 50p each, and 18 of them were Tenth Doctor novels! :D
I've read Autonomy by Daniel Blythe and Stephen Cole's Sting of The Zygons. I am currently reading The Art of Destruction, also by Stephen Cole.
I also attended my FIRST CONVENTION recently! I went in cosplay as Donna Noble, won the Doctor Who quiz, and participated in some fun and games! It was IMMENSE and I'd definitely go again! :D

I have been LOVING Peter Capaldi as the Doctor, I think he's awesome! But my heart will always belong to Ten... ;)

Thanks for reading this blog post, and I will catch up soon!

Love and hugs,
Laura

All Of These Stars Will Guide Us Home...

Hello!

I recently was able to go to the cinema with my friend Tim to see The Fault In Our Stars, based on the novel by John Green (one half of the vlogbrothers.). I read the book after seeing reviews and posts relating to it (such as fan art) on Tumblr, and one of my best friends, Amy, told me to be prepared, because I will cry. Which I did. But I loved the book so much, and it really changed my perspective on things!

I even customised a blue tank top that I had found to wear especially to go and see the film!

I had bought the soundtrack prior to seeing the film, and I absolutely love it! It features artists such as Ed Sheeran, Birdy, Charli XCX, Lykke Li , Tom Odell, Kodaline and Jake Bugg, among others.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect when seeing the film. I had read the book, and I knew what was going to happen in the end. But I wasn't quite prepared for the sheer excellence from the film.

Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort star as Hazel Grace Lancaster and Augustus Waters, and both play their parts magnificently well. It was easy to connect with the characters and their stories. It was as though the cinema crumbled around me and I was simply someone who was in the background following their story. Within the cinema, I could hear several snuffles from audience members in certain parts of the film, and I was warned prior going to see the film that it was very emotional and it would pull your heartstrings. This was most certainly true.

But there were also moments of happiness, like when Isaac decides to throw eggs at his ex-girlfriend Monica's car, which made everyone in the cinema laugh!

I would definitely recommend going to see this film, because it is both tragic but heart-warming at the same time. But if there was one thing, I thought Peter van Houten would look different... this is why sometimes reading the book before seeing the film can mess with your picturing of the characters- but it's so much better  that way! :)

There are two more films that I am hoping to see and review on this blog: Mrs Browns Boys: D'Movie! and What We Did On Our Holiday, which comes out in September, and stars David Tennant and Billy Connolly.

Thanks for reading this review!

Feel The Sunshine, Shining On Your Face...

Hello there!
Sorry I haven't made a blog post in a while, but I've been really busy!
For instance:
  • I have
  •  been making a load of videos for my YouTube channel (link in the bottom)
  • I've been doing a TON of reading, and it seems I'm all set for summer with the amount of books I've been buying recently!
  • I've also been writing a few new songs in the hope of recording one in the near future!
  • I recently participated in the Cleethorpes Carnival as Peter Pan on float 14 to raise money for Brody's Disney Appeal. It was an amazing experience! And, our float came THIRD out of ALL the floats in the competition!
So, currently it's summer, and the weather has been awfully kind these past few days! However, sometimes it's not so kind because there is much fluctuation- going from pleasantly warm with a simple summer breeze, to being so hot that its impossible to function and you end up sitting in your bedroom just browsing through Tumblr, reblogging countless pictures until your brain can't take any more.

A lot of my friends have been complaining that there's 'nothing to do' and they're 'bored. Well, kids, I'm here to help! I've always had this problem- you start the summer having no idea what to do with yourself, and then BAM, it's soon September again, and by that time, you've compiled a list of about 500 things you want to do... but it's too late.

So, here are a few suggestions that should help you decide what you can do with your summer (do these at your own risk):

1. TIDYING UP AND GETTING ORGANISED.
I've always had this issue where I have too much stuff and no idea where to put it. Now's a good time to sort through all the stuff and sort out the treasure from the fool's gold. You never know WHAT you'll find, you might uncover old gems from the past- I found out a note that was between myself and two of my friends which we passed during class before the days of texting. Well, not that long ago, but anyway...
Also, it's important to have a good storage system. Several stores will do decent storage systems at a good price- I did my research, and a couple of places I can recommend to look are:
  • Muji - they sell acrylic holders which many YouTubers have been RAVING about, and they're really good quality.
  • IKEA - this store is very versatile, and offer many storage solutions at great prices.
  • Charity shops, and sites such as eBay, MadBid and Amazon - you can find some storage solutions on these websites at reasonably cheap prices. Just make sure the seller is valid.
2. GET OUTSIDE!
There is no point spending the whole summer cooped up in your room, lazing around and doing nothing. Get out there while the weather's nice! Go on a bike ride, meet up with your friends and hang out, go to a theme park or water park, go to the beach or somewhere that you've never been before! Now's a good time to try new experiences, such as trying a new cocktail or taking up a new hobby- just don't forget your camera!

3. AND WHEN IT RAINS...
Sometimes the weather goes a bit haywire. If you're stuck inside on a rainy day, turn it around! Get creative!
  • Write a story/song/magazine article/fan-fiction/pamphlet on how to make friends/whatever you want to!
  • If you have an old cork-board doing nothing, do what I did- cover it in photos an Polaroids and tickets and notes and stuff!
  • Write a letter to your favourite singer/band/actor, find out their fanmail address and post it! You never know, you might get a reply!
  • Make a quote jar- find an old coffee or jam jar, write down a load of quotes and cute sayings on small pieces of paper, fold them up, and you're done! It's a great idea for when you're feeling a little down I always find.
4. BE PREPARED.
One of the most important things to do is to plan ahead. Sit down and think about what you'd really like to do this summer. Whether it's swimming with dolphins or riding a unicorn, make a list of everything you'd like to do, and there you have a summer bucket list to keep you occupied!

So, there are some of my tips, I hope they help some of you lot!

Have a great summer!

Today Is The First Day Of The Rest Of My Life...

If you're reading this... YOU'VE FOUND ME! *comes out of hiding spot and waves*
Hello there, citizens of the world! How do you do? Pleasure to meet you!
Oh, you want to find out more about me? All in good time, my boy, all in good time.
Firstly, my name's Laura. If you didn't know that, you do now.

THIS IS ME.#notamodel

So, recently, I turned 18. The big 1-8. You can do a lot of things when you turn 18 in the UK- you can buy alcohol, vote, get a tattoo, marry, make a will, buy a house, carry an organ donor card, do jury service... AND YOU CAN WATCH ANY FILM YOU WANT TO. As well as being able to perform professionally abroad. Sounds fun- First Choice kids rep in Gran Canaria, here I come!

But seriously, 18 is an important milestone. It's that moment when you realise you're not a child anymore, and that you're an adult. You can be sued, so you have to watch your mouth. Yes, I do feel different now I've turned 18, but in a good way. I can still act like a big kid at times, but there are rules to be followed.

So what did I end up doing? Well, I've been wanting to do a photo-shoot for ages, and I got the opportunity to do it! I invited four of my friends to come and join me, but unfortunately only three could come (sad times) but it was still LOADS of fun! You've probably worked out from the last bit of text that I have FOUR best friends- I have Amy, who I've known for seven years and has a heart of gold, Rebecca, who I've known for two years and always knows how to make me smile, Emily, who I've also known for two years and has the cutest personality EVER, and Julia, who I've known four years and whom I affectionately call my 'partner in crime'. We never break the law though. First rule of being partners in crime.

The photo-shoot was a MASSIVE success! It was great to celebrate such a milestone with my girlies, and also have the photos to look back on and think 'yeah, that was so much fun!' Although Julia couldn't make it, I have a trick or two up my sleeve to make sure that she feels like part of my celebrations. Watch this space.

So, let's delve a little further into the rabbit hole that is my brain...

I am a HUGE fan of Joe McElderry. You might have heard of him (SHOCK HORROR). He was the winner of the UK version of The X Factor in 2009, winner of Popstar to Operastar in 2011, and winner of The Jump in 2013. He's a Geordie lad with a voice of an angel. He's currently on his 'Set Your Soul Alive' Tour, going all across the country to perform. I've been lucky to go on three dates- Skegness in March, Scunthorpe in May, and Retford later in May- as well as meet him afterwards. You have to be prepared to wait a while if you wanna meet him, but it's DEFINITELY worth it! He's an all-round nice guy, down to earth, not a bad bone in his body. He's more than happy to sign autographs, pose for pictures, hug his fans and just chat in general. Below is a picture of Joe and myself after a gig (as well as a teddy bear that I got from the tour's merch stand which he signed the hoody of for me):

I also love David Tennant- you know, the one who made Doctor Who just a little bit hotter? ;)
He's such an amazing actor, and not just Doctor Who (but don't get me wrong, I am a MASSIVE Whovian! I mean, come on, my 18th birthday cake was a TARDIS!) I saw him in Broadchurch, and I absolutely loved it, as well as The Escape Artist, which made me cry numerous times. If you haven't seen either of these shows, I suggest you watch them. NOW. This instant. You won't regret it!

I'm currently at college doing final exams for Performing Arts, Sociology and History, but I'm staying on for a third year to better my social skills and confidence. Julia's going to come and join me for this shindig (as it will be her first year in college- fun times!), so I'm excited about that, and I'll be doing Drama and German, as well as a bunch of other things that aren't so academic. I'm aspiring to be an actress or a singer/songwriter, or a combination of all three. No matter what happens, I want to perform, be it on TV or on the stage. I would love to become a role model and inspire other young people in a positive way.

As for interests, they're very broad. Of course I love my music, but my taste has a great range- from ABBA to Avicii, The Osmonds to One Direction, Tchaikovsky to Taylor Swift. I like a lot of different music artists and styles- pop, J-pop, K-pop, classical, jazz, alternative, R&B and of course songs from MUSICALS! I love musicals, I always have and always will- my particular favourites being Wicked, The Drowsy Chaperone, Les Misérables, Hairspray and Spring Awakening. But I love a good show-tune.

Well, that's all I have to say for now, folks. If you have time, please do check out my other social networks:
